Once, many years ago, I was lying awake at night reflecting on how we were living our lives. I sent an sms to a friend in Naples and wrote an entry in my diary in the morning.

13th January, 2004

Sms message:

Human mind: room for love, room for reflections, room for irony…What do you say about irony? If they all switch rooms what happens to the mind? They are dancing with masks in there. Reason with mask of empathy, love with mask of vanity, joy and pain in couple…”

Next morning I wrote this in my diary:

Crazy dance in masks. Big gala ball. What is what? Word concepts lose their form, nothing is known anymore. Human mind is upside down. Its core, its order undermined. Love wears the mask of greed, fear represents itself with the face of kindness, anger is grace this time.

Cry of pain. Take my hand and everything will be all right! He cannot take it, all concepts of his mind wear the mask of fear.

I am sinking deeper in the merry tunes of the carnival. All the word concepts are smiling. “Keep on smiling!” A flood of grinning visages. Kristjan holds my hand. I am wearing the mask of irony. Me!

CarnivalThe carnival unfolds itself again and again because we agree to play by its rules. We put on new and new masks. With time I have decided not to invest much vital energy into wearing masks. With time I see more and more clearly the masks of those around me.

We all play roles. Roles of men, women, professions, believers, sisters, brothers, parents, children… “I am a woman, I play the role of a woman.” I identify with this role and lose big part of my vital energy to sustain it. For example: do I have to always side with women because I am currently in a female body? Both sexes are equally responsible for current state on our planet. Just today Uchu sent me a text about this. About how we are mind-programmed, conditioned to identify with the roles (I am Slovene, I am Christian…). This keeps us imprisoned in a refined prison of the mind that most are not even aware of.

So when you find yourself in a situation in which you want to automatically take sides and defend one side (maybe even argue), take a second! Take a deep breath and observe: “Why did I want to take this side?” Try to answer to this Why – this Why will change your world!
