Uchu Darwin ElisaSecond part of the evening is dedicated to your questions and debate. You can ask anything you ever wanted to know about shamanism , ways of life of indigenous peoples of the 21st century in the Amazon, their spiritual traditions, medicine, etc . If you are ever tempted to visit the Shipibo Indians, Uchu is the right address for all necessary information.

Shipibo Indians, unknown to most tourists, are one of the most fascinating tribal communities of the Peruvian Amazon. They live in villages, mostly clustered around the Ucayali River in the regions of Pucallpa and Loreto . They are also known as masters of Ayahuasca and “weavers of music.”

Although peaceful tribes today, it was not always so. Until the first half of the 20th century they had periodical wars with foreigners and used psychotropic plants to help them, especially ayahuasca. Ayahuasca is a sacred plant for them – “mother plant ” on which they have based their cosmology, medicine and art.

Shipibo patterns 2Shipibos are best known for their unique and fascinating art of drawing and weaving of the rich patterns. Through dialogue, contact with the spiritual world, they receive patterns. They draw and weave them and these patterns are written musical notes to them. Old knowledge allows them to sing those patterns, and vice versa: to write melody down using patterns. Those songs (the icaros) are used for healing. There are many testimonies of miraculous recoveries from diseases that Western medicine gave up on.  Uchu will also introduce you to the basics of their cosmology.

Translation from English into Slovene is provided .
