Uchu Darwin ElisaShipibo Indians, unknown to most tourists, are one of the most fascinating tribal communities of the Peruvian Amazon. They live in villages, mostly clustered around the Ucayali River in the regions of Pucallpa and Loreto. They are also known as masters of Ayahuasca and “weavers of music.” Ayahuasca is a sacred plant for them – “mother plant ” on which they have based their cosmology, medicine and art.

Shipibos are best known for their unique and fascinating art of drawing and weaving of the rich patterns. Through dialogue, contact with the spiritual world, they receive patterns. They draw and weave them and these patterns are written musical notes to them. Old knowledge allows them to sing those patterns, and vice versa: to write melody down using patterns. Those songs (the icaros) are used for healing. There are many testimonies of miraculous recoveries from diseases that Western medicine gave up on.  Uchu will introduce you to the basics of their cosmology, medicine, mentality and more.
